The profession and practice of psychiatry is in a state of change, influenced by neuroscience and neurotechnology, genetics, the new DSM-5, and socio-cultural and economic forces. Moreover, the progressive globalization of medicine poses new opportunities and challenges as international ethnic, religious and political beliefs and behaviors become ever more prevalent, and psychiatry gains prominence in non-western nations.
This conference addresses these issues from multi-disciplinary perspectives, and seeks to bring together researchers, scholars, and clinicians to discuss the philosophical and scientific bases of psychiatry, and ethical, legal, and social implications of change in the profession and its practices, and what the field can - and perhaps should - become in years ahead.
